Clinical trial transparency has been an area of focus for the past 20 years. Being transparent about clinical trials covers two main areas:
- Clinical trial registration at the start of a trial, making the public aware of clinical trials that are open for enrollment.
- Clinical trial results once a trial is completed, openly sharing the results of studies.
Both component parts have been greatly enabled by the advent of the internet and the ensuing Information Age, making it easier than ever to provide clinical trial education to the public through resources like ClinicalTrials.gov (which first launched in 2000) and trials.lilly.com (which first launched in 2013).
